At this time in America, we need to think about what it is we're really looking for—from ourselves, from the people we know, from the people running our nation. One thing I think everyone is looking for is intelligence—the real thing. So I present to you a wonderfully clear definition of intelligence, part of Eli Siegel's work Definitions and Comment: Being a Description of the World. Accompanied by a rich comment in beautiful prose, the definition itself is: "Intelligence is the ability of a self to become at one with the new." Isn't this what we all want to have, and meet in others?
